Naval Support Activity Northwest Annex

Naval Support Activity Northwest Annex is located in southern Chesapeake along the North Carolina border. This Naval Security Group Activity supports branches of the military in the Hampton Roads area. What once began as a Naval Radio Station now hosts thousands of service members, dependents, reservists and civilians on any given day. Those stationed here can get away from the crowds of the city and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

A U.S. Naval Radio Station was founded here in 1955. This facility received messages in support of the naval activities, which went on in Hampton Roads. Then in 1970, the Naval Communication Station Norfolk gained control of the activity of the Naval Radio Station Northwest. Naval Security Group was created in 1975. Naval Support Activity Northwest Annex was established as part of the Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads to aid regional military units.

Today, more than 10 tenant commands are supported from the efforts of Naval Support Northwest Annex. The service members at this facility aid units, activities and commands from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps. This annex is located between the Great Dismal Swamp and the Northwest River Park. This location is about 30 miles south of Naval Station Norfolk.

While Naval Support Northwest Annex does offer some military housing, there can be long waiting lists. Homebuyers need not worry though. There are plenty of lovely neighborhoods nearby that offer value and quality to incoming residents. Check out Timberwood, Hickory, Village Farms, Hunters Ridge and Edinburgh for single-family houses that pass the test.
