Mark Lytikainen is a real estate professional who likes to bring humor into his work. Not that buying or selling a home isn’t serious business, but Mark likes to keep the fun in life and believes that the real estate process can be a fun and enjoyable one. “I might even be a little goofy,” says Mark. “But making my clients happy is at the heart of what I do.”

Mark recalls being on the client side when he bought his first house. His agent didn’t seem to take him seriously because he was young. Many of the things that happened in his first buying experience motivated him to make sure his clients don’t ever have that experience. He and his wife did finally fall in love with a house. He remembers the joy his wife expressed at finding the right one. “She started jumping up and down saying, ‘This is exactly what I wanted!’” That’s the moment he wants to give his clients. “When you make people happy, it makes you happy,” says Mark.

Mark got his start in sales in the automotive business. He attended Frostburg State University in Maryland and transferred to Arizona State University to study mechanical engineering. He started selling cars to pay the bills. His dad is a retired Navy Captain and he told his dad if he couldn’t make a go of it, he would enlist in the Marines. But sales turned out to be his niche. He spent 25 years in the auto business. He recalls long hot days in 115 degree Arizona heat on a car lot in long sleeves and a tie. As he continued to excel, he moved into sales management positions and finance director. He laughs when he remembers selling 15 cars in 4 hrs during a marathon event.

His success in sales prompted him to branch out and use his skills in another arena. With a heart to help people, Mark decided to become a real estate agent. “Buying and selling a home are some of the biggest decisions people make in life,” says Mark. “I want to help my clients through what can be an overwhelming experience.” Mark leads with his humor and people skills, but he is also a professional with years of negotiating experience. He listens carefully to what his clients want and works hard to make sure they end up with the goal they have in mind.

Living in the Hampton Roads area for over a decade, Mark is familiar with the area. He has lived in Williamsburg, Chesapeake, and finally made his home near the ocean front. He loves living near Neptune park where he enjoys taking in the free summer concerts, especially the Virginia Symphony. All of the 7 cities have things to enjoy and Mark would love to help his clients find the right area for them.

In his free time Mark enjoys a good steak at Chops or a fun evening at Buffalo Wild Wings with friends. When he’s feeling really wild and crazy he belts out a few tunes singing Karaoke. Fitness is a priority for Mark, though he admits he hates running. He lifts weights and exercises most days of the week. Mark is a referral agent right now and he’d be happy to help you find an agent for your real estate needs.
