Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions a person can make. And working with a real estate agent can make this process enjoyable and well-planned, or haphazard and stressful. As your potential agent, I want you to know a bit about me as you consider who you want working for you on such an undertaking.
I'm John. I love real estate. See, I've always been a bit on the nerdy side. I like facts, rules, evidence, numbers, statistics. I also really like being around people, and don't have the attention-span to do mundane tasks over and over again, so it makes finding a job that has both these components complicated. Before real estate, I tried a wide variety of jobs. I managed part of a grocery store, substitute taught, waited tables, worked in ministry, repaired antique furniture, and worked in sales. I even delivered milk all over Hampton Roads, which has turned out to be quite helpful in knowing the area.
But real estate is a blast. It's perfect. There's the numbers, the contracts, the deadlines, the multi-tasking, the negotiating. And there's the understanding, the listening, the trying to capture every client's different vision and plan. I got hooked myself when buying my house, as it turns out, from the lady who is now our sales manager and trainer for Simonhouses! I love the troubleshooting with resales and distressed properties and thoroughly enjoy the thrill of putting together a perfect new construction home for clients.
Throwing in a few hobbies: I love gardening and am dabbling in aquaponics. As I've worked in this field, aspects of homes have interested me, particularly maintaining and improving them. I like cars and road trips. I'm passionate about community involvement & development, from churches and schools to neighborhoods and city planning.
I have a delightful little boy who's four now who I just love the mess out of. I grew up in the country in Texas, with 8 acres, 9 dogs, 1 crazy cat, a lizard, and 4 cows, and have lived here in Newport News since 2005.
If you want to chat and tell me a bit about you and your family, I'd love to hear from you. You can email me using the link above, give me a call or find me on Facebook at

John Bencheck has been my realtor since 2014. I found John through a website back in 2014 when my husband and I first started looking for homes. John showed us homes during the bad winter snow storm in 2014 into 2015. We found a home that we liked and then decided not to bid after getting a case of first time buyers reluctance.

Fast forward to the fall/winter of 2015 and we were starting to look again. John followed up with us just to check in periodically and he was the first person I called when we were serious about finding a home again. This time around, John was spot on in the homes he showed us due to the relationship he built with us and I never felt rushed into the purchase. He knew our basic criteria but the most impressive thing about John was his ability to hone in on the unspoken characteristics that we were looking for in a home. In his words, we were looking for "a neighborhood that looks like money, but isn't money." He was spot on and we LOVE our neighborhood and our house! John paid close attention to our reactions to the first few homes he showed us and into less than a week of showing homes, he was able to perfectly send us homes that he knew fit our personality without us saying a word. I was so impressed by his ability and his patience with us as well as overall knowledge of homes and their construction/materials.

John is top notch and I would highly recommend him to any other customer. He also went above and beyond in pointing me in the right direction after the closing in relation to a minor maintenance issue and walked my husband and I through the steps of who to contact first to get the issue corrected. This is above and beyond since we were closed and I am so appreciative. Overall, John's abilities as a realtor exceeded my past experience of working with realtors and we couldn't be happier with the overall experience of purchasing our first home together and our first single family home.

My wife and I took the leap into 1st time homeownership and John was with us the whole way. He was incredibly patient with all of our questions and worked with us on nights and weekends due to our full time schedules. He listened to our wants and needs list and helped us find, almost exactly, what we wanted even with our modest budget. John comes highly recommended by us.
