Emily Underwood picked an unusual time to get interested in real estate – during the market crash of 2008. But as she worked through the process of getting licensed, she was undaunted by the struggles of the real estate market. By 2011 she had her license and she was all in. Being a military spouse may have contributed to her fearlessness. The life of the military family is filled with uncertainty and challenges. Emily has been tried and tested in the trials of military life and she’s come out with a wealth of knowledge to benefit her clients. Emily grew up in Tennessee, but has lived in Hampton Roads more than once. Her husband James works on computers for the Navy and they have come to love the Hampton Roads area. Each time Emily has lived here, she has grown more and more familiar with this Tidewater area. She enjoys showing clients around as they search for the perfect home. Emily is very detail oriented and takes great care to guide her clients through every step of the home buying and selling process. Experience has shown her that clients want an agent who is available when they need them and who listens to what they want. Emily is diligent to meet those expectations. She wants her clients to have a great real estate experience. “Buying a home should be something you get to be excited about,” says Emily. “I like going along for that ride.” If past clients are an indicator, Emily has a solid track record. She gets return clients and referral clients routinely.
One of those satisfied customers was a client who was relocating from another city. Emily helped him zero in on what was most important to him and helped him find the right home in the right location. But she laughs when she remembers that it wasn’t easy. Her client was kind of all over the place initially. It took some skill and keen listening to help her client figure out exactly what he was looking for. “I let the buyer lead the way and show me what they are looking for,” says Emily. “I’m not a pushy agent by any means.” And with clients like this one, Emily got the payoff she was hoping for; a happy client who loved his home. He has referred many clients to her since. The mark of a successful experience!
Emily has an Associate’s degree in Science with a major in Criminal Justice from Motlow Community college. She has worked in retail sales and even worked as a photographer taking photos of vehicles for Auto Trader. Those jobs honed her people skills. The best part for her was meeting new people all the time.
This fun-loving, caring agent describes her home as a zoo, with 3 cats, 2 Siberian Huskies and 2 beautiful children. The baby of the house is Colt, her adorable 9-month-old Huskie. When she’s not helping a client, or managing her zoo, Emily enjoys reading. She also loves to visit historical sites and find little known facts about the areas. She got the travel bug from her parents when they took her to England and the Bahamas. They even let her do a summer abroad in Paris when she was in 9th grade. When Emily needs to clears her mind, she goes hiking. A hike around a quiet lake helps re-center her. Emily and her husband also enjoy participating in charitable run-walk events.
