Description
Homebuyers can build their own new homes in South Norfolk. Or they can buy new construction properties currently on the market in this up-and-coming area. This transitional part of town continues to be revitalized and attract more homeowners who want to get on board with this urban movement. Located in a northern section of Chesapeake, VA, along the shores of the Elizabeth River, this neighborhood is a nice, centralized spot in Hampton Roads. Downtown Norfolk, interstates and military bases like Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Naval Station Norfolk are all within close range.
New construction is becoming a common theme throughout this area. Newly built properties and shops are popping up to make South Norfolk into the place it was always meant to be. In the late 1960s, South Norfolk or SoNo, merged with the city of Chesapeake. Some feel tax dollars were spent developing newer places in the city instead of keeping them in this area, thus drying out area resources. Now, thanks to vigorous city revitalizers, this neighborhood is back and growing again. New homes are becoming a more familiar site and families are moving back.
When new construction properties are purchased here, it not only contributes to the urban redevelopment movement but it helps the earth as well. This is a community where Virginia residents don’t have to rely on a car every single day. Children can walk to both Oscar Smith Middle School and Portlock Primary School. Make a morning complete with an order of some of Tidewater’s best pancakes at Grandpa Joe’s, a little diner down the street. Hop on those bikes and head over to Lakeside Park or Cascade Park for some fresh air before playing outside. New homes in South Norfolk are also nearby shopping at Village Square Shopping Center, Chesapeake Crossing Shopping Center, Bainbridge Marketplace and Southgate Plaza Shopping Center.
Don’t think all good things happen in the suburbs. Just because new construction properties may seem more prevalent outside of the city doesn’t mean you can’t find a new home here. South Norfolk offers an urban vibe with a dash of yesteryear; come see how you fit in.
