Tile can change the whole appearance of a space whether it is stone, ceramic, glass or porcelain. Open any interior design magazine and see that tile is iconic of stylish homes. Not only is tile stunning to look at but it can also be durable and versatile. American homebuilders have traditionally used ceramic tile in bathrooms and kitchens but modern materials and out-of-the-box thinking keep things interesting. While ceramic tile is still a tried and true favorite in wet areas, some other front-runners have established themselves as excellent choices. Natural stone tiles can be used in flooring, bathrooms, kitchens, countertops, fireplace hearths, patios and more. The choices of natural stone tiles can seem endless- marble, limestone, granite, slate and quartz. Then come the colors. Remember, colors of each choice may vary depending upon which particular slab of stone the tile was cut. True porcelain tiles are made of fine grains of sand created under very high temperatures. This process makes porcelain tile very hard and durable, especially in high-traffic areas. Decorative tile specialists can install tile perfectly with ideal grout lines. Adventurous do-it-yourselfers can install tile as well, provided they have received some instruction and have the proper tools.
