Air Conditioning & Cooling
A central air conditioning and cooling system is the most efficient home cooling method. Fans, a swamp cooler and a window a/c unit may also be used to cool homes but to a lesser degree. It can be terribly uncomfortable if the air conditioning and cooling system stops working during the hot, summer months. Keeping a central unit regularly maintained is essential for optimum performance. A central air conditioning and cooling system is like a refrigerator. It must have Freon or similar to function since it cools through evaporation of this type of refrigerant. The home's hot air is turned into cool air, then pumped back inside. Homeowners in drier climates may like the evaporative cooler, commonly called the swamp cooler, which cools air through evaporating water. A swamp cooler pulls in air, then cools it by evaporation. The cool air is blown out and circulated around the space, thus cooling the area. A window a/c unit cools a space by lowering the temperature of the room's air over the evaporator. Hot air goes through the condenser and is then forced outside. Fans certainly aren't the answer to staying cool but they can lower air conditioning costs and circulate the air to create a constant breeze.
